Video Production in a COVID World: The Virtual Video Village

The production team and interview subjects are both in Boston, yet the marketing agency is in the Midwest and unable to travel eastward for the shoot. But your organization really needs the new content.

This is when a virtual video village really shines.

A virtual video village is a system where multiple locations and stakeholders can all be “on set” while being hundreds or thousands of miles away. Through hardware and software, all parties can view and hear in real-time what is happening throughout the entire day. The marketing agency can conduct the interview sessions as if sitting right behind the camera.

Copper Hound Pictures recently conducted Boston production days in this manner. And through our mirrored EyeDirect system, a monitor was placed behind the camera and the person sitting in the interview chair was looking directly at the face of a person sitting in Chicago. That person in Chicago was looking at their computer monitor and seeing exactly what the camera was seeing and the microphones were capturing. No delay. No distance-issues. We even had separate video conference areas for check-in meetings throughout the day with the agency, and were able to share hair and make-up progress to confirm the overall look and style of the subjects.

It’s a setup that is perfect in a COVID world where travel and distances hurdles are turning into easily solvable situations.

If you are in need of a multi-location content creation and think this solution can work for you, feel free to reach out to us. We’d be happy to provide you with additional details.
